I use my iPad for two things. Playing a casual game and sometimes watching YouTube videos. I tried to watch a YouTube video last night on my iPad in Brave and could not.
You have probably seen that YouTube has been warning you to not use an ad blocker. Brave has the ad blocker built in. I could turn it off but I won’t. The result of their decision is that I will stop watching YouTube when it blocks using an ad blocker.
I am not the only one who feels this way. I have shared before how ads can be sources of malware, and I won’t take that risk. There is nothing that is on YouTube that I need. What they are doing with this decision is ruining people’s desire to use YouTube.
YouTube and other vendors I don’t play like that. I don’t act against my own best interests. It is in everyone’s best interest to block privacy-damaging ads and ads that increase your risk of being hacked. I shared earlier that I stopped using all social media except LinkedIn and I might stop using that too. Social Media is pushing people away from it with this kind of behavior. You don’t get to dictate what choices the customer has. We will go to other options.
As much as I understand companies want to preserve their monopoly I can’t support it. If people choose to not use an ad blocker get more and more ads, and have lower quality experiences on YouTube that is their business. I know what I am going to do.
Thanks for the memories YouTube. It was fun while it lasted.
