Will this car make it?

This is what I thought as the car loaded down with people started to slow down in climbing a sharp hill.

I was nervous. I was driving my friends car and it was loaded with people. It was a suburban SUV and had 8 people in it. I told my friend that the car was losing power and so I floored it. Instead of speeding up, the car slowly started to less forward momentum. I was starting to sweat.

There was nothing else I could do. I couldn’t change the weight of the car, and although we were almost at the top I couldn’t change how the car performed. I turned off the heater but that didn’t make any difference. All I could do is hope that I could make it over the crest of the hill.

It was the winter and to lose traction going uphill meant that trying to pull over to the side would have put the vehicle/passengers in danger. This was out in a rural area and the sides of the road were pilled up with snow. Not a great situation to be in.

So what happened? It was a miracle but the car got over the hill and even though I had two more hours to get home, it continued to slowly lose power. I told my friend this and he suggested we stop at a city and his friend could fix it and he would give us a different vehicle. I was thrilled with this suggestion.

I switched vehicles and continued to drive home. The new vehicle had no mechanical issues and I arrived safely to their home. There are times in life where there is nothing you can do but hope.
