We all want things that don’t make us happy

'OK, I'm sorry I didn't think it through... are you happy now?'

I am surprised how often I have wanted things that didn’t make me happy.

So it comes as no surprise when I see other people share online about getting things that don’t make them happy. One of the things that I think about sometimes is one wealthy couple said that wealth didn’t work out for them, and they choose to live a more simple life.

That’s interesting to me since most people think that the more money they spend the happier they will be. I often ask myself before I buy something if it will make me happier, or if I need it. The answer often is that I don’t need it and I often don’t even really want it.

Which is kind of frustrating. I have spend money on too many thing in life and then after getting it, realizing that I don’t really need it. Sure I used it for awhile, but then when I was bored I gave it to a friend

My friends are loaded down with all of my hand me downs. They are happy that they get free stuff, but I’m not anymore happy for having had them. I don’t spend excessively, but working in IT makes it easier to justify being electronics and I have a weakness for laptops and headphones for sure.

When I am researching things I sometimes come across things that tempt me like a different laptop or headphones, but I remind myself that what I have now is amazing and that how much better could it be? There is a point where it is ridiculous to spend money, and I have gone past that point.

I am not saying what is right for you to spend money on, but just using me as an example. Life is more about collecting experiences than things. Things will never make you happy.
