Turn down jobs that ask too much

I’m beginning to wonder if the the 7th level of hell is the recruiting experience.

Why do I say that? I had a recruiter contact me about a job that was in my skill set. It was remote, and the salary looked good. The problem is the wall of text he sent me with the job requirements.

You know the drill. The company not only asks for a college degree, but 20 years experience that 99% won’t have if they went to college. Because they were getting a degree instead of experience. You can’t ask people for both degree and experience when its an introductory level job. It just doesn’t make sense.

However the wall of text goes on and on and each requirement is more ridiculous than the last. They want one person to be an entire IT department. It just isn’t realistic. It is hard enough to master and keep up to date with the current technology and the expectations are just completely unrealistic. Not even a genius could fulfill all of those requirements.

I responded and said that I am not interested in working with this company. There are reasonable expectations and unreasonable ones, and this was one of the worst unreasonable expectations that I ever read.

If they interview someone who they think has all of these qualities and knowledge, that person is lying. You could not know all of those things necessary to be competent in them because they are almost the entire IT field. Smart people are not computers. We don’t know everything and adding requirements doesn’t mean that we are good at it. If we are motivated we can find answers, but don’t assume that because someone does some quick research that they can do the job.
