It occurred to me the other day that the Grinch was an amateur. Now there are people on the world stage that make the Grinch look pitiable.
Now I’m no Grinch apologist, but looking back perhaps there were some signs he wasn’t terrible after all. He did have a dog who loved him, and that shows something of his character. You might even make a reasonable argument that he was a highly sensitive person and socially phobic. Perhaps even autism or anxiety disorder, which I am sure that many Gen Z can sympathize with. Indeed, if the Grinch had a medical condition, he was to be pitied not be the villain.
We did see his heart grow three times that day. I couldn’t believe it either when I saw it. I was ready to lump him in with hopeless souls, but he did reflect, in that one moment, reclaimed his humanity and grew who he was as a person.
Now with that said, lets look at the people on the world stage who are the worst people in the world and perhaps even in history. Rather than kill millions of people quickly, they want to kill billions of people slowly. Through climate change denial, oil drilling, consumerism and starvation. I see society going backwards, and it is because of the choices of the masses who choose to hurt others rather than heal and forgive.
In that scale, what Grinch did was laughable. Yes it was wrong to steal children toys, but we learned that he grew, and ultimately was accepted by his community. Do we think that the worst people in the world are growing and will be accepted by their community after their change of heart? Do they even have a heart? Or is it just a dead piece of flesh that only covers they narcicisstic desires. Is this the kind of world you want to live in? Where even the Grinch starts looking good by comparison?
