I looked at my traffic numbers today because I realized I hadn’t looked at them in a very long time.
Why had I stopped looking at them? It just didn’t interest me anymore. They weren’t helping me make interesting content.
The fact is that things that are popular are not always what I think they will be. I see the LinkedIn Analytics and the website traffic which is far higher doesn’t interest me.
If I sold something then it would be very interesting. However it just took up time and I prioritized other things.
Why am I sharing this with you? It is part of my life evolving. I find that with time things that I used to think were important no longer are important and its interesting how we change isn’t it?
I think that influencers aren’t measured by the number of views, but by their impact. Anyone can get views. You just say something stupid and people will argue with you. Or you rely on tired worn out formulas and/or lie about your headlines.
What is really a challenge is to share something that is new and novel. People want variety and if you can provide that then they love it. Some of the most popular shows like Johnny Carson, Laugh-In and others were about variety.
Life has an incredible way to give us variety if we are open to it. Its why I buy things like those Peltor headphones I talked about before. I am curious if it will help me, and when it does I feel so grateful and excited about the process of discovery.
Each day we have the opportunity to grow and to invest our energy into things that help us and others. Watching traffic numbers did nothing for me.
