Something is making people stupid

Is it just me, or are people seeming to get more stupid over time?

I watch YouTube videos of random people who share their wisdom with the world. Sometimes they are thoughtful and I learn things. Most of the time I can’t believe they are saying what they are saying.

For example yesterday I heard from someone who reviews cruises that after finishing this cruise that was $1000 a night luxury cruise, they were going to take a vacation in Disney World. They need a vacation after their work of cruising. I am not going to watch them anymore because I am not at that financial level where I can identify with having that much money.

Another cruise reviewer talked about how one of the experiences was only limited to a fraction of the entire passengers because it took time and it was experimental. They said how lucky they were to experience it and that they should charge more money for it. I was like what? Is capitalism rotting your brain? You need to be so exclusive that you need to further gate keep an experience?

Now it isn’t just cruise reviews, but almost everything that I read online. When I started with the Internet it was a place to make friendships and network with people around the world. Now it has become a vanity metric and a way to compare yourself against other people. This hurts everyone. Why can’t we just live our life and not compare ourselves to others? There is always someone smarter, faster, better in some way than us and worse than others. What does this obsession with rank even matter?

I don’t know why people are wasting their lives and time on things that don’t matter. It doesn’t matter that we can’t experience everything. No one can. It doesn’t matter if we can’t identify with everyone problems especially those who have wealth and luxury. It doesn’t matter if someone is better than us in some way, because we have value who we are right now.

The world doesn’t need carbon copies of people. We need everyone unique strengths and weaknesses so that we can love and respect and support each other. If your time online isn’t bringing you and others happiness, then you need to evaluate your life. We are a community, and hurting others only hurts ourselves. Why is this so hard to understand?
