I have noticed that for some posts they start quickly in views and continue being strong. Other posts are slow to get views and don’t get many. However the majority of my posts seem to get views quickly and then slowly taper off after 8 PM EST.
Why am I sharing this? The LinkedIn Analytics tells how many people are reading the posts. I sometimes refresh on them randomly to see the rate and understand the different topics that people like.
A few days ago I had a very surprising huge popularity for something that I thought we get few views. It was the article talking about JSON which I thought would be too nerdy for my audience. I was wrong.
I don’t try to write posts for views, but I do think about if something is interesting to others. At times I have written things that gotten the least amount of views that I have seen. For example the last article I wrote about my plant being more healthy got 30 views, which is far lower than I am used to getting with a typical article.
When I republished some of my older posts they got a ton of views. Perhaps I am becoming less interesting. Or because those things had some pretty dramatic headlines, people seem to respond to playful and dramatic headlines.
When I was a reporter my editor told me that headlines are what make people read stories. He wrote all of the headlines and I learned from him what people wanted to hear about. I have not perfected the formula but on average my views are increasing. Again this is not to brag, but rather try to help people who are building their own audience. People want to hear something that is uniquely you. I get far more views on something that I write than on something that I share.
