Recruiter forgot who I was

I put recruiters into the LinkedIn InMessage archive and then delete them after a month. It turns out that perhaps recruiters should do that as well.

I had a recruiter reach out to me today who I spoke to two weeks ago. It was for a different role and he acted as though he had never meet me before. Originally he reached out and I responded and he didn’t respond. That is never a good sign.

This time he called me and then tried to offer a ridiculously low amount. It was disappointing because he was asking for a specific skill that is not common and anyone with that skill won’t work for that low amount.

Almost as a rule, recruiters will offer you a lower salary that you can get by talking to a company directly. There are notable exceptions where recruiters have shown that company that I am worth more than they are offering and gotten me that salary. Still, they need to be paid and if you have a budget in a company you may not be able to afford an experienced person for the job.

Don’t take it personally when they forget who you are. It just proves that you are just a number.
