Imagine my surprise yesterday when I was working, and the image on the screen immediately decreased 50%.
Of course I wanted to understand why. It turned my 120 inch display into a 60 inch display. Not terrible, but not what was working previously.
The first thing I did was make sure I didn’t accidently move the projector. It is close to my feet and I might have moved it without realizing. Then I rebooted the devices. For a moment the screen size returned and even larger, and then it got smaller again.
Ok then, its not the projector since if it showed it at a larger size and then changed to a smaller one, it clearly can handle the larger size/resolution. Perhaps I thought this had to do with monkeying around with my resolution. On a whim I disconnected NoMachine and that didn’t make any difference. Then I turned off the machine, and the screen became regular size again.
Now this isn’t all that I did. While I did this I also moved around my desk to give it more space so that it could project a larger image. I wanted to give this the best possibility of working. That helped as well, and I lowered the height of the projector by 8 inches and that helped as well.
So clearly NoMachine is contributing to the projected image instability with emulated games. I continued to use and play Marvel Strike Force and it didn’t crash. Ok then, it seems clear I need to change the remote connectivity software.
Another option is to buy a ThinkPad and put windows on it and just dedicate my current machine to playing games. That feels wasteful because I don’t play many games. I am pretty sure that I am not going to spend money to do that option.
Right now I have my Linux machine and until I find a better remote connectivity software its not going to be used. I will do that next.
