I have been using Microsoft Loop and I think its an improvement over past ways that Microsoft handled team interactions.
In the past it could be awkward to deal with files in Teams, Sharepoint or OneDrive. While it is not difficult for people who are familiar with technology, many people struggled with aspects of file management in all of those solutions.
What they have achieved with Loop is that they have brought real time sharing/editing and more of an Atlassian file management interface. Instead of going to specific applications to get data, you are seeing data shared that normally would be confined to Word, Outlook, OneDrive/Sharepoint.
The advantage of this should be obvious. Rather than going to specific applications, the data that you probably need to see is updated real time. It can still be worked on in those traditional applications, but this is more like the old Apple technology. Apple used to have a technology in Appleworks that would let you edit things in place, rather than forcing you to go to a specific application to work. I loved Appleworks and it was clearly ahead of its time.
Knowledge management or giving people access to the data they need is becoming more refined. I used to hate the overwhelming folder structure and so did users in OneDrive/Sharepoint. I think personally that OneDrive/Sharepoint are going to be End of Life in 5 years. People just feel overwhelmed with that kind of structure, even when it is limited to only their team data. There is so much data that people are overwhelmed and managing data better is going to become more key to IT.
The other interesting thing about Loop is that it shares the same User Interface (UI) as Gutenberg on WordPress. It used the / as a way to invoke functionality which is not something that I like. It goes back to the old WordPress/DOS commands. I think this is a fad and will disappear. There are too many people who are reliant on a GUI to make this popular. I could be wrong, but people like pushing the easy button and that is a GUI element.
If you haven’t used Loop give it a try. You might like it more than the past mistakes Microsoft has tried to foist on us.
