The reason is because most of us receive so few of them.
Why am I sharing this? Not so that you feel sorry for me. Rather that if there are men in your life that you love, you need to compliment them.
I was reminded of this by thinking of the handful of compliments that I have received in my life. Many times it was not women who complimented me but men. For example, in high school there was a debate in my English class and no woman complimented what I was wearing but a man did. Men are often nicer to other men than women are to other women they don’t know.
One woman that I was on a date with who had shared she had been a model said that she was tired of compliments and got mad when people gave her compliments. I couldn’t understand this. I can’t imagine ever becoming tired of compliments. What is wrong with people when they can’t take a polite gesture and just appreciate that people see them in a positive light?
Most men also get very few or no gifts from women. I was 17 before I received my first gift from a woman. We were friends and she sent me flowers and I cried. I still remember her because of that thoughtful gift. Being appreciated is rare, and how good it feels when someone does it for you.
Everyone deserves to feel appreciated and special. Just because they are a man doesn’t mean they don’t deserve it.
