Look for kind people during your job interviews. When your coworkers are kind, it makes all the difference.
I was foolish in the past when I looked for jobs. I thought that salary, location, and job duties were the most important. Now I realize how you are treated is the most important and that everything else comes in a distant second.
Why do I say this? I am currently working with kind people who I really enjoy helping. I have worked with nice people before. Nice people seem kind but often have their own agendas and will show their true colors once you get to know them. It is very difficult getting a job with mentally healthy people. I am not looking for perfection. I am looking for a job in which people can respect me as a person and that’s it. They don’t have to like me or be kind to me, but if they are, things are much more pleasant for everyone.
Now you might say well you sound like a jerk yourself. That’s ok if you think so. There are people who have that opinion. You might feel someone is treating you badly when you treat others badly. The point of this article is that respect is due to every person. You may not like them, but if you don’t treat them with respect you only hurt yourself and others.
It is exceptional when others treat others with kindness. Rather than just respecting them, they empathize with their struggle. I recognize that when I help people with computer issues, they are usually stressed and frustrated. I treat them with kindness because I get frustrated too when the computer doesn’t work as it should. It is easy to treat others with kindness when you imagine the situation could be you instead of them.
Kindness may not get you rich, but it will allow you to enjoy your life.
