Just ordered the iFixit kit to replace a battery

I had a very generous friend buy me a laptop several years ago. The battery wore out and it wouldn’t stay working when it wasn’t plugged in. I thought it might be fun to see if I could replace the battery.

The battery arrived today and when I got out my tools to replace it, I discovered that I didn’t have a Torx 5 that was needed. I just ordered the parts from iFixit.

Now I ordered slightly improved shipping for an additional $14 because I would like to get this fixed in a timely manner. This is my first iFixit purchase but I have used their tools in other jobs in the past.

I had tried buying cheap tools from retailers in the past but was always disappointed with them. For tools you really can appreciate something that works well.

Now the kit I bought was about $30 and it has way more tools than I need. I could have bought the two tools that iFixit said I needed for that model, but having more than the basic tools has always been helpful for me.

Maybe I just have a tool fetish. In the past I bought two different sets of tools in my life and it was really fun to use those tools and experience what they could help me fix. When I owned a house I had to buy lots of tools, but when I lived in an apartment like I do now, less tools. I prefer having less things than more. Its one reason why I love my apartment, and was not happy with the costs of having a house. I just didn’t feel I needed it.

Still if you have time and money a house might be interesting experience for awhile. I value my time and fixing things while interesting in the short term, doesn’t excite me in the long term. I guess that makes me a lazy fixer. I’ll fix things, but then I like for it to stay fixed. I tend to do the same thing when I consult. Strangely some customers like things to be broken, which I never can understand. I guess it gives them the illusion of job security, but we know that isn’t true.
