In the past few months, I have gotten more random text messages than ever in my life. Is this happening to you as well?
Yesterday I had one from a number I didn’t recognize but an area code I used to live in 10 years ago. That person said my name and asked me how things are going. Now, why would I respond to something like that?
Besides random people from my past messaging me, I get messages from the CEO of every company I have been a part of. They always say the exact same thing. “Your name, this is CEO. I have an important job for you. Are you free?” Yeah, I’m free, free to ignore this BS.
But wait there is more! I get text messages about student loans-don’t have any, kids-nope, manhood problems – no comment. I get topics from A-Z none of which have any relevance to me. I wonder if email scams are not as profitable as they once were, so now they are trying to use text messages to scam people?
It is sad that people don’t have anything better to do with their time than this. One of the interesting things about working with computers is that we often learn of scams very quickly. Users will call in with issues and ask “Is this normal”? Every job I have had in the last twenty years has had some kind of security issue, and sometimes text messages played a part in it.
I want nothing to do with text. The text has been associated with scammers. In the past when I would meet people online scammers would always ask to text me. Why would I do that? Why would I waste my time with someone I have no idea who/what/where they are. I always asked to meet in person or talk on the phone. If they didn’t want to do that fine, I am not going to waste my time.
I know the younger generation loves to text and sees this as an old-timer who isn’t hip. That’s fine. I want real life or video or forget it.
