I will do anything to avoid negative Karma.
What does this mean? It means that I will apologize, pay, humble myself, and do whatever it takes to fix the problem that I may have created by my actions/inactions. Do I believe in reincarnation? No. I do believe that how we treat others matters, and our behavior towards others is the most important thing that we do in our lives.
So in my life, I have apologized for problems that I didn’t feel that I created. I paid and gave gifts to people who didn’t deserve them. I have humbled myself to not say when people have stolen ideas of mine, and when they have used my resources and thoughts and claimed them as their own. Why would I do this? Am I submissive and enjoy being used? No, I am not and I don’t enjoy being used.
The bottom line in life is that we can’t control what others do. We can only do our best and let the cards fall where they may. Many times in our lives people who are selfish and don’t care about us will use our goodwill to enrich themselves and hurt us. When that happens then I know that I need to avoid them and move my life in a different direction. The people who help us are few and far between because narcissistic people get through life easier and we contribute to that ourselves.
For example, attractive people often get treated better than non-attractive people. It is called the halo effect. We need to be aware that more attractive people aren’t necessarily better people, and often are worse because they are used to being treated better. This means that we need to be careful how we treat people and watch that we don’t contribute to their distorted sense of self and their perceived value.
I don’t care about Karma because I think it will get me into heaven. I care about Karma because in my ignorance, selfishness, and humanness I am not always going to make the most helpful choice. It is just common sense to apologize. Avoid negative Karma, and make the world a better place.
