I wanted vegan oatmeal raisin cookies yesterday so I asked ChatGPT. It gave me a recipe and it turned out pretty well.

It might have even been better if I had not had to guess at the tsp measurement since I couldn’t find my tsp. After I asked for a recipe I asked it to add it to a shopping list and then added other things to the shopping list and then went shopping.

Since I have paid for ChatGPT I am seeing what else I can do with it. It is excellent at comparing publicly available documents. I think that it is eventually going to replace Microsoft Word. I have pasted un-formatted and screwy text with lots of extra characters from copying and pasting from web pages, and it outputs a formatted bulleted list very well. If you need to do text cleanup, I think it works very well. It might also replace Excel as well. It can build tables and has even built simple spreadsheets. Claude/Gemni can do this as well so this isn’t just a GPT thing.

I shared before that in the Brave browser when you put a search query in the URL bar it does the Brave default search just like Chrome does with Google. The brave default search is good, but I find myself increasingly using the Brave AI icon to get a faster answer. The answer isn’t always right but it does tend to save not having to spend time browsing different pages to confirm the answer. However ChatGPT and the Brave AI both have good answers. I think that increasingly people will just use an AI that is convenient to them not one in which they have compared with other AI’s. If I had to choose I would choose the Brave AI because it is more independent than ChatGPT in its sources, and shows them readily as footnotes. To me that inspires trust in the answer.

AI is shaping up, but it is still not worth the billions that have been spend on it. It would have been more helpful for that to go to security and lock hostile nations from using hacking for political and economic gain.
