Experiencing jerks in the recruiting process

Maybe its just me, but I seem to attract jerks to my life.

This is not to complain but rather to share that if you feel someone is not professional its probably best to just end it quickly and not waste your time.

Why am I sharing this? I was thinking of an experience that I had when I decided to take a chance on a hybrid work schedule because the job would allow me to learn new technical things that I thought would be valuable.

I always say I am only WFH but I thought perhaps this would be a good opportunity for me, and if they could do just one day a week I would risk my health to become more valuable in the market.

So we go through the process and then they tell me that the client will need an in person interview. I ask them if we could do it remotely since I shared that I never do anything but WFH work. He said no, they wouldn’t accept that and I said thank you for the opportunity to discuss this position but it is not right for me.

It is absolutely silly that people think that in person interviews are still required. I’d rather be poor with no job than to work for a company that doesn’t try to protect the health of its workers that are vulnerable. I shared that I had health concerns that required me to work from home, but when the company doesn’t care about me, I don’t care about them.

There are always jerks who ask for unreasonable things. It might be a low salary, unreasonable hours or working in the office when it can be done better remotely. You have the right to say no.
