Its hard to look at the world and think people aren’t victimizing themselves.
Why do I say this? I watched a YouTube video where they explored why there is a high pregnancy rate in the Philippines. Part of it was religious and the other part was cultural.
Now it is not my purpose to judge another culture. I watched that video to better understand the reasons why. One of the mothers who just gave birth in a hospital for people who couldn’t afford to pay for healthcare said that with multiple kids they would have a better life for each other. Meaning, the brothers/sisters could help each other survive. Other interviews with mothers said that when you have more kids then in the future those kids will help you survive. Kids were the social security of poor people.
Now that logic both makes sense and doesn’t. Other mothers shared that because of poverty, many of their children died. So having kids to support yourself in the future seems to be not to be a loving act but a selfish one. The religious argument is that life is sacred and children are a gift from god. Perhaps. But I can’t believe that a loving god would want his children to suffer with hunger, abuse and all of the social problems it causes. I don’t think if God exists she is cruel. Yes, I switched genders because clearly a superior being is not limited to gender.
It is really hard to see poverty and difficulty in life and not want to do something about it. I can not fix every problem in life. The most we can do is to have sympathy and try to work on the causes of ignorance and the root of societies issues.
If we look to the future to save us we are already lost. We have to bring the change in the world that we need now with our current actions.
