I have to laugh because as much as I love security, it can be a real PITA sometimes.
Today for example I was asked to give anonymous feedback from HR. I went to respond to it on my iPhone but it demanded I download their app. I tried to download the app but Apple wanted my password, and when I gave it, it didn’t recognize it. I tried again and still a problem. Ok then I’ll use the computer.
Thinking that would be easier I went to the web page and had to solve two things to get to give the feedback. Now what do companies think is going to happen when they make it difficult for employees to give feedback? It isn’t going to happen. People are multitasking and busy and they forget what they are doing.
This isn’t a complaint but I am often amused at the multiple levels of security that I do each day. In addition to MFA, I have policies on my iPhone from the company that I work for that demand putting in a password before I look to email. So here is a typical sequence of events. I get a notification that I have an email. I put in the password to get into my phone, and then put in the password again to get to my email. Then if I have to act on it, I use MFA to get to a secured place in which I am again asked for a personal password/passkey. Oh I often have to verify things with Okta Verify/Microsoft Authenticator. Then when I am in their computer system I am doing administrative stuff, so I am challenged again for my identity with a passkey. I don’t do anything during the day that requires anything less than 3 levels of security.
No I am not bragging or complaining. I am simply saying that when you do this many times a day it can feel like there should be a better way. I would gladly pay $100 or more to have one system where I can log in to the computer and it automatically has all of my security/MFA/passwords/passkeys and company security tokens. For the most part 1Password takes care of a great deal of this.
I might investigate this. Perhaps there is an overarching Biometric tool that can do this and I am just unaware. I’ll let you know if there is something that can make our lives easier with security.
