It isn’t built in but it is easy to add. Why would you want to do this?
Let’s say you are a developer who develops for different Linux distros. This would allow you to test apps from different distros for one and still not have the overhead or complexity of setting up a full virtual machine. Maybe there is an app that you need to use that isn’t included in your distro? This would allow you to use that app. Lots of use cases for this.
You can read more here. https://cubiclenate.com/2024/03/02/distrobox-with-boxbuddy-on-opensuse/ It takes a few minutes to set up and if you don’t like using the terminal you may not like it. However, once you do have it set up, you can use it through a graphical interface called BoxBuddy. Still, if you are the type that needs this, you probably don’t need the GUI to make it useful for you.
I liked the fact that I could easily set up these containers and it was a very quick setup. I have seen videos where people have installed an entire usable OS in them but I don’t think that I need to do that. VirtualBox makes more sense for the average computer user. If this isn’t making sense you probably should watch this video to understand this technology better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiDt4O6UPRw Skip the intro. This guy likes to talk a lot.
I also set up Podman but that is another post.
