I don’t know why this is so hard for people to understand. If people disrespect me, I will not do business with them.
For example, I have been looking for a new apartment, meaning you have to tour possible apartments. I made an appointment with one gentleman at 10:30 and was there a few minutes early. I called and left a VM and never got a callback. I called a few minutes later thinking perhaps he was on his way and couldn’t answer. Then 15 minutes later I called again and he said that something came up and he would be there in 30 minutes. I said that was a problem for me but I would wait.
Exactly 30 minutes later I called him and he didn’t answer I was getting ready to leave when I saw a truck pull up. It was him. No callbacks and no courtesy for my time means that the apartment would have to be amazing for me to want to rent it. Unsurprisingly the place was a dump and not like the pictures showed. I thanked him and left.
It’s a complete waste of my time. I have said before that I wait 15 minutes for people and then leave. The reason that I waited is that it took me 15 minutes to drive there, and another 15 minutes I could wait based on not wanting to just waste my time completely. However, what I should have done is say “I’m sorry that you couldn’t keep an appointment or tell me that you couldn’t keep a confirmed appointment. I have no interest in waiting for you. Good luck with renting this property.” That is what I will say next time. I am generous and understanding but 15 minutes without any kind of communication is more than generous.
Another lesson I learned is that when someone is disrespectful about your time, effort, or anything that you do, it’s best to just take the loss and leave the situation. I should have not called him and waited 15 minutes and when he didn’t show up leave and give up. Your time and energy are too valuable to waste it with people who don’t care.
