For the last several months I have considered getting rid of my iPhone 13. Why? I don’t use it enough to justify having it.
I have looked at a phone called the Lightphone 2 which offers much of the same functionality as the iPhone. The only reason I haven’t switched to it is that currently it doesn’t support MFA apps that are necessary to use in business.
The reason I am thinking about it today is that currently only Xcode can simulate/emulate the basic functions of iOS. However it can’t run apps in the way that LDPlayer can. If I had an emulator that could run iOS apps then I would get rid of the iPhone.
Why get rid of it? I am paying $25 a month for the most basic account on US Mobile. I don’t even use that enough to justify it. With LDPlayer working so well, perhaps I need to do some more research and see if someone has hacked a way to get MFA authentication working on another OS. I am sure some criminals have this working, so if a legitimate case can be made then why not?
Also I am curious about the security. If this can be done, then it is a further step showing that MFA authentication isn’t good enough and another reason to encourage companies to have higher levels of security like a RSA token/Windows Hello.
I’ll let anyone know if I find a way, but I am going to look now. For the most part 99% of the communication I get on the iPhone is just spam like random people messaging my SMS trying to phish me into their schemes. What a waste of time the iPhone has become. Yes the LightPhone 2 has an SMS app but it will be different and not prone to the same security vulnerabilities that currently exist for iPhone and Android devices.
