With KDE Connect you simply go to the Apple App Store and search an app called KDE Connect. Yes, it works for Android too.
Then it searches your local network and if both devices your desktop and smartphone are on the same wifi network it will find the desktop and then give you options. I can share my local clipboard on my iPhone, send photos or videos, send files, remote control slideshows, run commands, or use it as a mouse/trackpad to my computer! Isn’t that amazing? Built-in functionality that you don’t have to download, keep updated, and trust.
I just tested all of the functions and they worked well. The images were sent directly to my downloads folder and this is functionally the same as airdrop but without the downsides like randos sending you unwanted airdrop photos. It is secure since you don’t rely on another company to do this functionality like third-party utilities exist to do this in Windows. It is easier because you don’t have to have any IT skills to use this, it just works.
This is a really neat way to control your computer if for example your trackpad stops working or your mouse stops working. This makes your computer a backup mouse and would be useful to have configured just to be ready in an emergency. I love having a backup in the software of something that normally would require another hardware mouse or external trackpad to do.
The benefits of Linux just keep increasing, don’t they?
