Company processes are usually inefficient

Today when I checked my email I had a bizarre email. I was BCC’d on it and the CC didn’t show. It was from the company that manages the apartment that I live in and they said that didn’t have my lease on file.

So naturally I call them because I don’t want any problems with my living arrangement. The representative is confused and acts like I am the owner at first. Then when she discovers I am the tenent, explains that this email was sent to the owner and tenant. Apparently they didn’t have my lease for this year on file, which I signed months ago.

Now one thing I could do it call the landlord and let him know of the call, but since he got the email he probably already knows about it. Since there was nothing I could do I asked why I got the email. She said that was to let me know in case the landlord needed the agreement that I had signed. The agreement that I had signed I had done so virtually by using Edge Browser to fill in the PDF areas.

So I had that email saved, but the person I spoke with didn’t say that I needed to do anything. So I wasted 15 minutes of her and my time, when really this is something that should have been automated. They should have had a confirmation of when the landlord sent the lease agreement back when it was due not months later. They should have automatically reached out to the landlord and not included the tenant because there was no actionable item for me to do. Normally when you are contacted, it is because you need to do something in the process.

People don’t think about how their process affects other peoples lives. Try to make your process as easy and possible.Otherwise you look like you don’t know what you are doing.
