It is frustrating when you are shown a red dot on your iPhone settings and when you open it up, its not clear where to go.

It used to be that Software Update was at the top level in settings. Then they put it under General. Fine. But today when there was an update I didn’t know that by a red dot. I had to guess and look under General to see if it was an update or something else.

Marvel Strike Force does this too. It puts red dots in places that you are supposed to pay attention to. When you click on that menu it doesn’t show a red dot on a sub menu. How about some help here? Why don’t you guide us where you want us to go with red dots rather than just guess out of dozens of options?

The UI designers may know what to do and where to do but the average person does not. When the UI changes between versions people get confused and they need to be guided. This isn’t just a usability issue, its also reflective of how you consider your user. Are you trying to frustrate your user because this is the way to do it.

Microsoft is also guilty of weird UI issues. They often change things and they are still crazy inconsistent. Windows 11 UI is ugly and although the Mac is better the minimalism can be irritating when things are hidden. Linux UI is interesting. You can find a distro that has the UI you like, and there are so many choices of UI that most people can find something they like. I wish that Apple would embrace the different UI that Linux has and give people choices. I think it would help them retain market share against Linux.

People just want to use programs, and the UI doesn’t matter anymore. Until you frustrate your users with inconsistent ideas.
