I just tried to do a Deep Research on ChatGPT and it said the tool was unavailable.
Now as a paying $20 a month customer this is surprising. I would totally understand if I was a free customer but I am not.
ChatGPT said that the tool was unavailable but it could still do what I wanted. We shall see.
Which says either the Deep Research tool is a scam, or I need to ask more complex things.
Why am I sharing this? At times regularly ChatGPT has had outages of some kind. It has been down, and then it has had problems researching current web topics. It will say that “Searching the web is temporarily unavailable”. Which makes it hard to trust the tool. I wonder if the people paying $200 a month see these error messages as well. It makes you feel like a second class citizen when you don’t get what you are paying for.
Yes one can argue that the time savings is more than the $20 a month so I am getting what I am paying for. However that does not release the burden of the company to have a reliable service without bringing its value into question.
Its really hard to value ChatGPT when unlike a web search engine, it doesn’t always work.
