I used ChatGPT Deep Research yesterday and it was amazing.
The query was something I wasn’t sure it could handle. I asked it to integrate one framework into another, and then asked a few other filters and I was sure it was going to say it was too complicated. Instead it asked me some clarifying questions that were very good, and then took about 5 minutes to think about it before it spit something out. This was the best of the 3 times that I have used it.
I asked it to include the sources and this time it had better sources that actually worked unlike last time. I used that to give me ideas about the research that I did for the client.
Of course you have to double check everything but it produced a 12 page document which is the longest response that I have gotten. It seems that ChatGPT is giving longer responses slowly over the months. This is fantastic. Before the results were too short to be useful.
I have used ChatGPT often and only one time have I heard anything negative about it. One possible consulting job manager said that he didn’t like my Statement of Work and said it wasn’t specific enough. Which is fine because I had interviewed with him and felt he was a jerk and wasn’t really excited about working with him.
Let me be clear. This research is not as good as an intelligent person could do. Even better who was familiar with the industry would be even more relevant and useful. Deep Research is a deceptive name. It should be called “Better than nothing summary”. You still need to edit it, fact check it, check the links and do the work. This isn’t replacing anyone. Funny that Elon Musk thinks that current AI could replace government workers.
