Brave Browser features I don’t use

“I am not a hater. I just don’t discriminate with my prejudices.”

I have talked a lot today about the Brave Features I use. Here are some that I don’t find helpful for me but you might. All of these features are why Brave Browser is a super app.

  • Firewall+VPN. I don’t like VPNS and I don’t trust them. There was an article that talks about the technical reasons why VPNs aren’t worth it. https://gist.github.com/joepie91/5a9909939e6ce7d09e29 I don’t need a firewall. My computer has one, my ISP has one, my website has one, and my teddy bear has one. I have more firewalls than any man needs.
  • Brave Talk. This I might use in the future. If you don’t want to use Zoom/Teams to do a video chat and really who would for personal use, then this can easily create a video chat. I will test this with a friend and report back.
  • Brave Wallet. I don’t believe in bitcoins and don’t trust them. I will never use this feature.
  • Bookmarks. I don’t use bookmarks. If I need something I write an article about it here and include the link. I don’t want the hassle of having anything on my local computer. Right now if any of my computers were stolen/lost it’s no big deal. Everything is online and ready for me to access it.
  • Reading list. I don’t want to have a list of things I will read later. If they are important I will read them now. If I think they “might be important” then I decide right then if they are important or not. There is plenty of grey zone in life, but not in information. If I don’t have time then I put the link on my calendar to read but I haven’t done that for a very long time.
  • Brave Rewards. If you want to get rewards and then spend them on other things you can watch ads. No, I don’t think so. I have seen enough ads to last me the rest of my life.
  • Brave Playlist. I tried this out and didn’t find it useful for me. Others might want to have an offline playlist that doesn’t depend on Google managing it or a third party.
  • Tor Windows. Too slow and I don’t have anything to hide.
  • Brave Translate. Don’t need this. I mostly deal with US information.
  • Brave Sync. I don’t save bookmarks, and I use 1Password to manage my passwords. Not needed.
  • Brave Speedreader. Declutter pages for easier reading. No problem reading pages the way they are formatted now.
  • Brave Vertical tabs. Tried it and didn’t like it.
  • Brave Wayback machine integration. Don’t need it.
  • Brave IPFS Support in Brave. This is cutting-edge stuff. You may not like it but your kids will love it. Thanks, Marty!
