I received an email this morning saying that it was a PayPal money request. I knew instantly it was spam.
How did I know this? I don’t have a PayPal account. I don’t like the way that PayPal does business so I have boycotted them for a long time.
More importantly, it looked official. They took their time to use their branding and make it look like an official communication.
Spammers are sending out more convincing emails than they did in the past. It is less common to see grammar and spelling mistakes, although it does happen.
I was lucky this morning. Not only did I get a spam email, but I got a spam text. I only needed to get a spam call, to get the spam trifecta!
My spam message was someone saying that they would be here next week and ready for me. I didn’t know that number and don’t know any person who would say that. I deleted and blocked their number like I do all of spam calls.
Up until 3 months ago I used to get most of my spam through LinkedIn messages. Now that is mostly died down, and they are trying older school methods. Be suspicious of anyone you don’t know and those you do, and call to verify and never call a number the person gives you. In that email spam they gave me an 800 number to call to sort the issue out.
I called PayPal and forwarded that to PayPal. I do everything I can to put spammers out of business.
