I just read an article that talked about how someone sent 1200 tailored applications to recruiters in a few weeks using AI. I wonder if that helped him?
I have used AI tools to apply to jobs automatically and I have to say I didn’t notice a difference. If all we are doing is increasing the number of unqualified leads for someone to shift through, I don’t see that as an improvement.
What you need instead is to do the work and share the details of your accomplishments so that when recruiters search for you, they have a reason to want to hire you. I have always had my greatest success with recruiters who reach out to me, and almost 99% or more, applying for jobs has been a waste of time.
Did I get jobs because I applied for them? Yes, a few. However the majority of jobs that I have gotten was because I was approached by a recruiter and then went through the process. If I got a job then how is it a waste? Those jobs were with toxic companies that I would have been better if I had avoided. Basically when it comes to jobs its the same as dating. You don’t want the partners who want you.
You want people who can offer you more than what you think you can offer them. Many times I have looked at job inquires and looked at the kind of company it is on Glassdoor. Almost universally the company that is reaching out is a better company than a company that is passively accepting candidates. I think I am coming to the conclusion that active job search companies are almost always better to work for than passive job search ones.
So I wonder if the future of LinkedIn is limited. I think that with AI agents, just having any social media profile will be enough to let companies know if you have the skills to help them. I suspect in another 10 years at the most LinkedIn will fade, and AI will transform all of this.
