I had many jobs when I was younger. It was interesting to see what I was good at.
One of them was at a nationally known fast food chain. I did a good job and was used repeatedly but I had one assistant manager who didn’t like me.
She said that I didn’t do things correctly even though none of the other managers said that and praised my work. One day she pulls me aside and says “You know you are lucky to work here.”
“Oh yes I am,” I said.
“Do you know why I keep you around?” she asked.
“No why is that?” I asked.
“It’s because I feel sorry for you. You will never achieve the career progression that I have in my career. I didn’t graduate high school and now look I am the assistant manager. You don’t have a future in fast food I know it.” she proudly said.
“That’s true.” I responded.
“Ok get back to work.” she barked.
She was right. I left soon after. How could I compete with someone who is the assistant manager and never finished high school?
