Adsense is deeply disappointing. Right now I have about $2 I have made in the last 3 days and isn’t worth it.
Now you can say it all depends on your traffic and you have to write things that people want to read. Fine, that is a fine argument. But it is also the case that the Google model of advertising is different than the normal model of advertising.
If I buy a billboard on the side of the highway I pay between $200-$1000 depending on the number of people who see it. However, with Google AdSense, you only get paid for the people who click on the ad which is akin to showing interest in the regular billboard ad. The truth is that Google gets it both ways. First, they don’t have to pay those large sums that real-world advertising would get. Second, they can disconnect your participation and refuse to pay which many people have found out the hard way.
As I said before, Google AdSense is not fair to the person creating original content. If they are reading you they value what you say and to not be paid for every impression is not fair. They are seeing the ad, so advertising has value does it not? If it doesn’t have value, then Google’s entire Ad business is a lie.
After doing AdSense it has changed my attitude toward ads. If I like someone’s content and can’t afford to pay them, I will click on an ad so that they are supported. I blocked ads in the past because they were vulnerable to malware and still are. However, at times I can click on an ad for a site that get value from and that is only fair to do.
I am not begging you to click on an ad. I don’t need your pity. I just want to point out that when original content is gone from the Internet, who is going to be bored? You are.
