I once worked at a company that had Windows and Mac and since most users had a Windows machine I choose that when I onboarded.
However the Windows machine had basic usability issues like the windowing and switching between programs. Very frustrating and time consuming. Since it was a new machine I figured that perhaps I just had to live with it until I could address it.
Then a coworker offered me his old mac. An M3 mac is perfectly useable to me. I used to use an M1 mac and loved it. So I got it and used it and it was a night and day difference.
Windows say they are cheaper, but they cost people time with all of the issues. I haven’t been enthusiastic about windows since using a mac. It is unfortunate that more business don’t realize what a costly weight Windows is to them and their employee productivity.
As more companies move to mac I feel really good about that. Even moving to Linux is a win. On my desk I have a Linux personal computer, a work mac, and a gaming windows machine. If I didn’t play games I wouldn’t have that windows computer at all and I run an android emulator so technically I could reformat to Linux and reinstall. Which I am strongly inclined to do and been thinking about recently. Then no Windows machines in my daily life. The original windows computer I still have in a drawer for an emergency if my mac dies, but I am not inclined to use it unless I have no choice.
When your users dislike your OS so much that they will use anything else, you know you have crossed the line.
