At work right now everyone is under a lot of pressure.
Why am I sharing this? Just to say that we shouldn’t take anything personally that happens to us or our team. People do what they think is best and that is ok. There are companies that need us, and if you have skills its easier to get a job.
Uncertainty is hard to deal with in life, but required as part of being an adult. We have to accept that things are uncertain and rejoice in change. I have sometimes resisted change but when it happened, I was better off because of it.
For example, moving to this apartment. I liked where I was before, just like I liked whoever I was before that. It doesn’t take much to make me happy with housing. A roof over my head is nice. Everything else is a bonus. I have been so lucky and grateful that often the housing has been comfortable and enough space for me to feel comfortable. Space in NYC is tight, but I live in a cheaper neighborhood and that helps.
One way to have a happier life is to consider what really makes you feel alive. Is it a new car, or more financial security and savings? I can’t speak to others, but I feel happiness in feeling useful and doing things to help move projects and things forward. If I can’t do that, then I find another way to be helpful. I think that being helpful is one of the most important things you can do besides being kind.
So lets be helpful and kind and remember that if someone isn’t independently wealthy, they are struggling right now.
