You can read more from the Atlantic that summarizes this.
The article includes this damning chat log from a 2004 conversation Zuckerberg had with a friend:
Zuckerberg: If you ever need info about anyone at Harvard.
Zuckerberg: Just ask.
Zuckerberg: I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SNS
Friend: What? How’d you manage that one?
Zuckerberg: People just submitted it.
Zuckerberg: I don’t know why.
Zuckerberg: They “trust me”
Zuckerberg: Dumb fucks.’
Is this the kind of man you want to support? Why do we support people who are abusive and who care nothing about those that they hurt? In a recent conference, Zuckerberg didn’t want to create a fund to help those whom his platform has hurt. People who lost children to suicide. Is our society really about non-accountability for the wealthy?
He isn’t alone in this. Many rich powerful technological leaders don’t see the need for accountability and are going forward creating a society in which we may not benefit from or worse, they may end up controlling. Are we distracted by our political theatre so that technology can steal democracy away from the people?
I stopped using Facebook almost as soon as I started using it. I could see it was a waste of time and the trash wasn’t worth it. Social media is toxic, including LinkedIn as I argued before.
