Toxic has so many behaviors, but it is when others add negativity and stress to your life.
Now I am a positive person. Most of the time I find myself around other people who are negative. I understand why. Being a positive person requires continual effort to choose your reactions to life. It is easier to be negative and toxic.
However I don’t want to live that way as Kimbra says. I knew early on that my life wouldn’t be worth living if I wasn’t positive. I had to choose hope, because life is nothing if you don’t have hope.
I am not a robot. I am not immune to feeling stress. It isn’t fun to be laid off, or lose my house or pets in the past. Ultimately however some things are outside of my control, and you have to recognize that and be realistic.
Now many people might say if you are laid off its your own fault. Really? Is it the fault of all the government workers who got bonus for outstanding performance that they were laid off? It is peoples fault when they get laid off that they can no longer pay their house payment? Is it peoples fault when they can’t find an apartment that allows two dogs and they have to give them back to the rescue? We need to have compassion for people. Unless you are a millionaire, you suffer with every little hiccup of the economy.
Being positive means that you will sometimes attract toxic people to you. They love to take your time, energy and generosity when they don’t deserve it. Many people unfortunately will abuse your good nature, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t be good matured. You just have to have discernment who you help.
We are not other peoples therapists. Often people have to have pain before they change. We have to be patient while other people grow and avoid people who don’t care about us.
