What would you do if a recruiter approached you like this?

I was approached in a way on LinkedIn that never happened before and it was confusing.

The person sent me a InMessage and said they were a recruiter for a company in Japan. They said they liked my AI skills and wanted my contact information so that the recruiter could contact me.

Of course I check this persons profile since I have experienced recruiting scams before. Plus scammers ask for your contact information. I have that never had other recruiters ask me for my contact information since they can see it using the recruiting features, which meant that he wasn’t using the recruiting features. Which makes it less likely he is a real recruiter.

I didn’t know what to do because I had no way to verify who this person was. I didn’t respond. He messaged me again which is something scammers do because they think that trying to pressure you will make you give them what they want. I told him straight up that with 28 people that were in his network, that was too low to trust him. He also barely had any information in his profile and was in another country. Another sign that I have seen with people who tried to scam me in the past.

He said that he was an assistant to the recruiter. Fine I thought. Let the recruiter reach out to me. I ignored him and once again he asked for my contact information. This is the third time now. I said that honestly I don’t have enough information to trust you. Could you provide me a job listing on a website or a requisition paper or anything? He came back saying that they were working on the website currently and that they don’t use that kind of system. I ignored him again.

If someone makes it difficult to trust them, trust your gut and ignore them.
