Using Azure Virtual Desktop split-screen

Wow, I thought I understood window management but using Azure Virtual Desktop split-screen has opened my eyes.

As you know I got a 17.3 inch laptop screen and now I can use split-screen in a very effective way.

What this means is that I can keep one browser on the left side open and working on research and issues. On the right side I have AVD with Outlook and Teams open. At first I tried to have the apps side by side, but the problem is that I would have to scroll and that was awkward. Just messing around I right clicked on the AVD menu bar at the outside of the window edge where it says East US Desktop.

It said Display settings and then two options to check. Fit session to window and update the resolution on resize. What happened next stunned me. First I had never seen those options or known they were there so since I like to experiment I discovered them. I always try to right click on new software to see if it offers new functionality. Anyway, it tiled the Teams/Outlook window on the top and bottom and now I don’t have to scroll to see both. I didn’t think of that but it is a better window management.

So incredibly after many years of using Windows I have a reason to use top and bottom windows management. I also turned off the Windows taskbar so that I could see the full windows screen in AVD and the bottom task bar and it looks amazing.

To me AVD looks better quality than AWS Workspaces and looks indistinguishable from running it on the computer itself. What an amazing experience.

I told a IT coworker once that being an effective IT person is 90% just messing around. The other 10% is knowing what you are doing.
