This is one of the computers that I have. The other is a top of the line computer with specs that beat it and as much heat as this one.
In order to deal with the heat I had to put them on their own separate small tables so that they could get cool air to stay cool. However in apartment, with my south facing window, it really heats it up. For example it is 88 degrees outside today and inside it probably 100. I am not complaining but it interesting problem to solve.
Where is the AC? My building has a Ptac unit or otherwise known as an air exchange. The building pays for the heat/cooling because the units are so efficient. However it is basically a fan blowing on a hot water pipe, and the hot water pipe doesn’t shut off until the end May according to NY state heating guidelines.
So in the meantime I have two fans and yesterday I changed my curtains and today it is cooler. The next step is to get rid of the gaming computer and replace it with a cooler mac. That is very tempting to me right now.
I can’t obviously get rid of the work computer, but I can remove the non essential gaming source of heat. For the game I will install windows on the mac and then play the game in that emulated environment. I bet it will still be cooler.
Again not a complaint but if you have a small apartment, don’t get a gaming computer with a south facing window. You won’t like the results.
