ThinkPad with OpenSuse was instant on this morning

I didn’t do anything special, but when I powered on my ThinkPad this morning with OpenSuse Tumblewood, it was instant on.

I barely saw the preboot window and then it was fully loaded on the desktop. Its like I blinked and there it was. I took a second to register and realize what just happened. I used many business laptops that claimed to have instant on with windows, but it never loaded that quickly.

Why am I sharing this with you? I don’t do anything to optimize Linux and with time it seems to improve on itself. I had rebooted this computer many times and while it was always fast, I expected it to be fast. I had booted from off many times and it was always fast, but I never thought it was instant on. Maybe I wasn’t paying attention and it always did this.

One of the things that I liked with mac is that you could put it to sleep or hibernation even, and it would resume fairly quickly. It wasn’t instant, but it was faster than windows would resume working. That was a time saver to me who often has to leave to help others, or to do tasks. I think we have become like the boiling lobster. Because Windows/mac have always been problematic we are just accustomed to it and see it as normal.

I would bet that if the average windows/mac user used a Linux computer that was the same hardware specs they would see an increase in performance, reliability and ease of use. I wonder why more people aren’t trying it?
