It may seem counterintuitive, but thinking is about emotions.
Everything that we think and believe is loaded with meaning and values. We have absorbed this through our community, family and environment. We believe mostly because of others belief.
Thinking is a direct challenge to the values that you hold. I think that people don’t want to think because if they think, they may have a chance of finding a problem with their beliefs, and that would be opening up a Pandora’s box.
So what I have seen is that people instead choose to be unhappy and not think about their life. For them it is too much work to think about their life and to consider if they really believe what they claim to.
I saw this growing up and all of my life. Most people didn’t want to think because it was “obvious” that they were right since other people agreed with them. With that kind of proof we will always have religion and cults because people believe whatever they want to believe.
Having therapy and having the courage to face your programming is one of the critical things that we do in this life. There is an old saying. “The unexamined life is not worth living.” There are plenty of people living an unexamined life and we clearly see that it isn’t worth living.
People who don’t examine their lives are unhappy and blame others. They think that once they get rid of others then they will be happy. The truth is nothing outside of us will ever make us happy. That has to come from within and that happens when we examine our thoughts and feelings.
Its ok if you don’t want to examine yourself. Ultimately you will feel less love, peace, contentment and joy. That is punishment enough.
