It is clear to me that the present and future is Mac/Linux.
I wrote earlier and shared statistics about how Windows has lost 17% market share in about a decade. Not only that but companies are frustrated with paying the MS tax and the difficult experience they have trying to use Windows technology.
For example, I once worked at a place that got rid of all their Windows laptops because they were so painful and costly to keep working. They went to Mac, and they aren’t the first company to do this. The apple market share has improved which has meant that my skills were more in demand in the last ten years.
This is part of the reason why I am more heavily using Linux now. I see more of a presence in Linux in companies and I want to be part of that. I want to be part of what works best and be able to help people use technology for their benefit. It is a good feeling when you can make a system do what you want it to do.
Of course, there are lots of businesses that use Windows and eventually, they will change. We have seen in history that no OS lasts forever. It is being able to reinvent what an OS can do that makes it want to be used. I think AI will increase the speed that Windows and even the Mac will use. It will take what used to be proprietary and unique to those systems and make it available to everyone. Already AI makes difficult things and time consuming easy. Things like creating a video from text, or a picture from words. Why would a company spend thousands on a computer/software and pay someone a salary if they can make images just by typing in some words? Are they the same quality? Perhaps not, but it doesn’t matter if good enough is all they want.
Companies like Adobe and all expensive software are limited. When AI can do those complex things easily why would we pay for proprietary software/applications? We won’t. Then people will say I can get a cheap Linux computer and not pay those outrageous OS costs and do what I need to do. That my friends, is a very compelling argument.
