Everyday I laugh, because if you do what people ask you to do, you will always be frustrated.
So you can either get mad or laugh. I choose to laugh at how ridiculous it is.
What am I talking about? I had a recruiter ask me to connect with the people who would be interviewing me for a job interview once. So I did that. I sent a LinkedIn invite as requested.
There were 3 people and two of them accepted and the other didn’t. So why did I do this again?
Many times recruiters ask you to jump through hoops that don’t help anyone. If they found me valuable after the interview, then adding me to their network makes sense. Adding me to their network before the interview, maybe less sense for them and me.
Now part of every application process is sharing your LinkedIn profile if you have one. However in this case, the recruiter reached out to me which says that he already searched and saw my LinkedIn profile. So I have to only guess that by me reaching out to the hiring mangers, I am making it slightly easier to see who they are hiring if their internal application system isn’t easy to use.
Don’t misunderstand. I am not complaining that I had to invite three people. Its just that I have never done it before, and when companies ask you to do something that no other company asks you to do, it is kind of a red flag that they are either geniuses at work or not doing best practice. If I had to guess, most companies aren’t staffed by geniuses.
But hey, I’d rather add someone to my network than other BS so why not? Just remember to laugh when your are asked to do something no other company asks you to do. Its probably just a check mark compliance test.
