On Star Trek Voyager when Nelix left his coworkers lined both sides of the hall on his way out. It was a touching tribute to someone who made a difference in their lives.
So it was with some surprise that I found myself in the same situation. I had a dense line of people greeting me on both sides and I could feel their love. It was really a wonderful experience. Then I woke up. I smiled because I am sure that this dream was because where I was working at the time was a wonderful experience.
Anyone who has a pet knows the unconditional love that a pet offers. In that dream I felt that unconditional love from those people. I didn’t know who they were but I felt so strongly that I knew them. I read a book once about someone who came back to life who was clinically dead. A doctor pronounced them dead. In it they spoke about how their life flashed before them. However instead of God judging them, they felt the emotions and reality of the people they had affected and at the end of the life review they were asked how they should judge themselves. What a stunning idea this is to me.
What if our life is just about being emphatic to people, and that the way we treat others is how we will judge ourselves? Then doesn’t it mean that we all have an opportunity to be kind and loving to others, no matter how they treat us? I am not advocating being used or abused by others, but saying that there is plenty of room in the world for kindness and compassion. Does this sound crazy?
The best moments of our lives are when we allow ourselves to be, and allow others to be as well. We all have challenges in life. Lets face them together with kindness and respect.
