My humidifier wasn’t working as well as I hoped, and the air filter was showing heavy polluted air all the time. What was going on?
I did some research and the air filter company said that humidity is interpreted as pollution hence the visual indicator of red. I read at other sources that Air Filters and humidifiers can conflict with each other and to either space them far apart or put them in separate rooms.
I had put them 15 feet away from each other but apparently that wasn’t enough. It reduced the pollution error but didn’t eliminate it. So the last few days I have had the air filter in my bedroom instead of the living room and the light for pollution is less severe.
Once I moved the air filter, the humidifier was able to maintain the 50% humidity that I have been testing. Before it struggled to stay in the 40’s. It struggled harder the closer it was to the air filter.
Right now it looks like putting the air filter in the bedroom is the permanent location for it. I investigated combination air filters and humidifiers, but I was not impressed with what I saw. The reviews on Trustpilot for some of the companies were poor. Besides I hadn’t needed a humidifier until the winter, so does it make sense to buy something just for a few months?
I am not sold on buying a combo unit. I like the fact that having separate functions allows me to mix and match different equipment. I have already considering buying the larger capacity humidifier which would mean I would need to clean/refill it less often. Choices, choices.
What I have is working great now and even though the lights on the air filter are not showing the proper pollution levels, that may be something I can live with.
