I have had people in both professional and personal settings tell me that if their pet doesn’t like me, then I am a bad person.
Part of my job was to go to the home of people who owned the company or VIPs. When i was told that I thought that was interesting. It wasn’t enough to get past HR, and a dozen other people, I had to now see if a pet liked me.
I had the same situation with a woman I was dating. When she invited me to her apartment she said that if her cat didn’t like me, we wouldn’t have a future. Ok then.
I have had pets but I never let them decide how I was going to treat someone. I can understand the appeal of having someone else make your decisions for you. You aren’t the bad guy, and it is a way to show who has the power. Looking back, I should have told both of them thank you for your time, but if you can’t relate to me as an adult then I don’t want this job or this relationship.
However things didn’t turn out that way. Turns out the decision had already been made. Both of their pets loved me more than the owners and couldn’t stay away from me. Both people said that they liked me more than them, and I thought to myself, yes because I don’t make a pet do your mental work.
Its ok if you believe that someone needs to be liked by your pet in order to trust them. I get that not everyone has good intuition. I think however in both of those cases, they did not trust others because they were expert at using and manipulating others. This was just another tool in their bag of tricks.
If you feel something is weird, it is and you should trust your intuitions. Both people were not good for me to know, and my life was happier when I didn’t know them. If you don’t have intuition, then when someone says something that makes you wonder how it is relevant, just know that this is just the beginning of how they will test you.
If you are a sheep its hard to see wolves, and if you are wolf all you see are sheep.
