Optimizing my desk setup

If it seems that I am never happy with my desk setup, it is because I like moving things around and doing experiments.

Yesterday I moved my projector around so that I got a larger image from it. That worked great. I moved some other things around as well.

Part of this of course is triggered by the 17.3 inch laptop screen size. It makes me rethink how things can work.

Another part of this is due to the increasingly hot sun that forced me to more shut the curtains to keep it cooler. I’m sure the plant would like more sun but it then got cloudy so we will see what happens. Finding the right plant/human balance here.

Another part is that since I gave the Thinkpad Linux computer to a friend, I reorganized the three laptops that I had. So far this arrangement is working very well. My consulting company will be taking one back and then giving me two new laptops, so that will mean I will have 4 devices instead of three. Which is still manageable if slightly ridiculous.

I have the spare Dell at the side and not using it at all. Its a cheap laptop with a small screen and its only job is to be a spare tire. I don’t want to use it, but if I have to it will do in a pinch. It cost about $700 at Costco and the Snapdragon makes it very responsive. If I was an ordinary computer user I would have no problems buying one of those.

My next laptop I will probably buy will be a MacBook 16 or anything that has an even larger screen size. I looked at gaming laptops that had 18 inch screen sizes, but the brands that I saw were from brands/models that are not reliable and so right now I haven’t seen one that is compelling. But if you are using an 18 inch laptop and it isn’t a gaming computer, I’d love to know how you like it.
