It never ceases to amaze me how complicated most companies make the onboarding process.
I once worked at a company and the process to get onboarded took 5 weeks. For almost 5 weeks my productivity was very limited because I didn’t have access to the things that I needed.
I have to wonder how much this cost the company in lost time and productivity. It is amazing how often as a consultant you find a direct link between the ease of onboarding and how well things are run in a company in general.
Since I tend to help companies for 3-6 months on average with projects I get a chance to get onboarded often. I am not complaining. It is interesting to see the ways in which companies try to manage their growth and deal with IT. I am not advocating in any certain way or technology. Everything has its pitfalls. Its just kind of ridiculous how people make things complicated when they should be simple for the end user.
User experience was always important to me. I always hated anything that made things more burdensome for the user. Even MFA which is important is an undue burden for the average user. Do we need it? Of course. Can we move to biometrics and other options, yes given that users understand how it can help them and the company.
Patience is needed in life. We always have to jump through some hoops because some people didn’t want to more carefully think about the process.
