So I got logged into my Windows 11 machine after I used my PIN and then when I went to Linux, NoMachine wasn’t working correctly.
What was happening and what has been happening the past few days is that the window isn’t fitting the window. Even though I have the same resolution set on my Windows, Linux and projector, it was doing lots of crazy things like making me scroll the window and not showing at the correct resolution.
I rebooted the projector since it had frozen in the past and perhaps this was causing it. Nope. Then I messed around with the settings on both Linux/Windows and that didn’t help either. I changed resolutions and rebooted several times and nothing.
Now window management on Linux is under development, and NoMachine gets caught up in the drama. Figuring this was a more complex problem I did what any nerd would do when faced with a possible difficult problem. I deleted the NoMachine program.
After I reinstalled it it worked like a charm. This was easy to do and fast. Now it is working great. It is really neat to see the screen mirrored to the projector and also displaying on the Windows 11 computer. The Windows 11 computer is behind me, and when the sun isn’t bright I look at the projector screen. Otherwise I look at the laptop screen. By doing this my eyes have felt great and they haven’t been red like they used to be.
It only took $2000 worth of equipment. The $1500 for the projector/screen, and the donated laptop that might be worth $500. The other advantage is that the keyboard is nicer on the ThinkPad so it is faster to type. I don’t support Chinese products, but I love the keyboard. The MSI keyboard is non standard and while I can use it, I sometimes make errors. I love the fact that I can play any game on the MSI and they look beautiful, so for now multiple computers are the way I am going to continue life.
In the past I used to use VNC but that has too many security vulnerabilities to use today. However it did work well and it was fun to control other computers from my computer. One day OS companies will have full compatibility with other OS built-in and these third-party control products will be a thing of the past. We see this in some of the AI models that can currently control the computer. I am not ready to cede control to AI but I can appreciate how they can help people who may have limited mobility.
